It’s when the snow is flying that we like to take out our small sizes (here PEAK4 5m blue and PEAK3 4m red) and cover many kilometers on the slope. The goal is to store the wing to descend on skis but doing a few sculls in the powder towed by the sail is just as pleasant.
With Jeremie we share the Gopro8 which stabilizes the image really well despite the jolts to try to make you relive this unforgettable day at the end of 2019.
It is at the wall of the Aittes (old fortifications) that we raise our wings to reach Les Frâches and its beautiful ruin in a few minutes before arriving on the crests of Chouchards with a very strong and gusty wind. Climb without making loops to arrive close to Montgenévre and take gusts of more than 40 knots .
The snow flies at head height and allows us to make turns while climbing and heading towards the Chenaillet where the wind is more and more gusty. We therefore decide to go back down by making a few bends before approaching the famous Dormillouse ridge .
It is after a traditional passage to the Col Bousson and the Cîme de Fournier that we cross the plateau of the Col de Chabaud to go up at the speed of light towards the crest of Dormillouse smoking and very snowy.
We were able to go up and down 4 times before going around again through Les Frâches and not walking until we got to the car .
I would like to remind you that Kitesurfing is a risky sport , especially when the wind is strong and especially in the mountains where stability (regularity) is not always there. Notions of mountains and the necessary equipment (adapted wings, avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe and what to walk without wind) are essential to practice safely.
